Description

If its not a well known fact by now, let me just say that Donny Cates is a really cool cat. I had the honor of meeting him at Rose City in '18. He signed some books and then he signed some art from his books but not after decrying that he himself had no original pieces to show for it. I found that slightly odd but did my best to not seem uncomfortable when he offered to buy something from me. I felt on the spot and politely replied that I would think about it. Which I did and upon returning the next day, offered a piece from Venom in exchange for a guest spot in the title. After some consideration and backand forth, he agreed, took some pictures of my face. I left with a promise and a fun story and he left with the art!

Fast forward to Free Comic Book Day, well about a month before. I reached out to him and asked when I might expect to see the results of our arrangement? He sent me a digital image of this page without words and a text that said "Free Comic Book Day, You're a cop". To say I was thrilled was an understatement! Now originally we had discussed using some version of my name but that was a detail that I understand for the sake of the story wasn't included. Still though, my likeness (the cop on the right) is in a major piece of the Venom/Carnage cannon and I am very grateful to Donny for agreeing to make a bucket-list wish of mine come true. I would do it all over again.

This is so cool!!!! Donny told this story on the podcast Stegman and his Amazing Friends first or second episode!!! Congrats on the cameo and for getting the original art!!!
