DescriptionThis page was made up from pages of Eagle Vol 2 (1951) issue 27 (top 2 rows) and issue 28 (bottom 2 rows).I'm told this art was re-drawn for the 1974 Annual before the original art was missing. The art is by John Michael Burns, the nephew of John Burns (Modesty Blaise, Espers, Sable & Fortune). Social/Sharing |

This is a re-drawn page for the 1974 Dan Dare Annual, recreated in 1974.. At the time of the abridged 1974 Annual reprint a small handful of original pages from the early 1950s 'Red Moon Mystery' story were missing. At one time I owned the original art for part of this re-drawn page you have (2nd row). Those parts of the missing pages were recreated, closely following the story panels as they originally appeared. No idea who did the re-drawing but this is definitely not the early 1950s art, sorry.

Thanks. I'll have to have a closer look.
Do you mean the whole page was re-drawn art or just the top part?

I'm pretty certain the whole page is re-drawn and dates from 1974 (the time of the reprint), not 1951. No idea who re-drew these handful of pages (where the original 1951 artworks were no longer available at the time of the reprint) but it's definitely not Frank Hampson artwork. Sorry to break this news to you, but I do think proper identification of what it is that you have is important. At least the other 'Red Moon' page you own is original 1951 vintage.
