DescriptionMarie Severin was well known for the cartoons she drew in the Marvel Comics Bullpen, but I have never seen one like this. It was made for a friend of then Marvel colorist Linda Lessmann to congratulate her friend on the birth of her horse, Fidget’s, new foal. The friend was a champion rider and was very well known in the world of model horse collecting and showing, but not a comic book fan. As much as she appreciated it, Linda’s friend had no idea how special something like this was and had it taped to her wall. For that reason it has a few wrinkles. When the friend passed away, her brother gave the hand-drawn card back to Linda. (Thanks to Linda for the explanation.)The cartoon is on 11” X 17 1/2" 2 ply bristol board, drawn by Marie Severin in india ink, with ink wash. The 26 signatures on the "card" include: Stan Lee, John Romita Sr., Sol Brodsky, Frank Giacoia, Roy Thomas, Herb Trimpe, Mike Esposito, Glynis Wein, John Verpoorten, Dave Hunt, Gerry Conway, Don McGregor, Tony Isabella, Holly Resnicoff (Stan’s secretary), June Braverman, Stuart Schwartzberg, Dan Crespi, J.C. Lee (Joan Celia Lee), Dick Conway (?), Tony Mortellaro, Tom Orzechowski, Carla Joseph, Mary Mac (Mary MacPherran), Benny (Mailroom?), Linda Lessmann, and Marie Severin. Some of these signatures I have never seen before.What more can I say? I love it.Social/Sharing |

So cool that you ended up with this Dewey! I can't imagine a better home for it. I like how Dave Hunt signed his name as part of a billboard. Pretty typical for him. Congrats, and thanks for sharing!
