DescriptionClosing out this last 5 months of Spidey posts with another Ryan Stegman add. Not a big bombastic cover or a piece from his recent popular Venom/Absolute Carnage work, but a panel page that just reminds me of what I like about his work. It’s not even the most finished piece, but the Stegman tenets are there.First, design. People like his new powered up Carnage, and during the alternate reality series this page is from, Ryan also got to do some other villain redesigns. The first arc’s bad guy was the Mole Man, and I liked how Ryan made him more…mole-y :) Here’s the reveal. That snout, that hair in the nose, those teeth…fun stuff. I do like when artists really play up the defining feature/power set of a character. Second, I like his Spidey. Have I said that before? ;) Even here in that small bottom left panel – IMO a nice blend of Romita Sr. and McFarlane but with his own spin. Third, I often like his female character’s faces, like this Spider-powered MJ’s (or should I say, Spinneret!) in that same panel. Lastly, movement. Might be what I like most about his stuff – the dynamic nature of it. Here, MJ realizes her daughter’s in trouble, and she speeds down straight away. Albeit the actual inks don’t have the speed lines, but you get the gist! You can see the additional published image to get the full effect. Alright, this Stegman example closes out my string of Spidey posts this year. As always, thanks for looking, and rest assured, I’m sure there will be more Spidey to come. He’s my favorite character. How could there not be?! Social/Sharing |

Very nice page! Ryan has really cemented himself of late as one of the great Spidey related artists ever.

Ryan really did a wonderful redesign of the Mole Man. Makes me giggle, but also a little scared, which is why this villain has always been so interesting & entertaining. You know how much I loved Stegman's work on ASM RYV, and this page is terrific because of all the reasons you cited. Congrats!

Apt description for the Mole Man - "makes me giggle, but also a little scared" :) My son loves the Incredibles, and I love how that film has it's own version of the Mole Man in "the Underminer"! And I know your're a fellow Stegman Spidey fan, Paul, so your comments are always appreciated! Thanks, all!
