Description

16" x 15" image area. Ink and Zipatone over graphite on Bristol board. The Maze Agency #18 Cover Original Art (Innovation, 1991). Scott Clark and Mike Witherby. Signed by both on bottom right and dated 1990.

This wrap-around cover just oozes 1980's which is what really attracted me to it. Very little original comic art of the 1980's truly relays the culture and style of that time like this piece. OK, so it was done in 1990 but it took a few years into the 90's for the Grunge movement to push out the opulence and glamor of the 80's. The hairstyle of the girl, those exercise clothes (a la Richard Simmons!), the lead sled Lincoln Town Car with all the angles of the 1980's automobiles, and the strong lines of the art of the buildings. I can almost hear Hall & Oates singing on that Lincoln's radio. I never heard of the this comic series but the 80's nostalgia of the art on this one just hits a real soft spot in me.

Great description of this page and the whole feel of it. Maze Agency is a big gap in my collection. Great get.
