DescriptionMiracleman is a really cool character. The best place to start with him is the beginning of Alan Moore's run, "A Dream of Flying" it features some great art by Gary Leach and Alan Davis. The character has a really interesting weird history. Originally created as a blatant replacement for Shazam after the British publisher lost the license. instead of Shazam, Child Mickey Moran shouts Kimota (atomic spelled backwards) and becomes Miracleman. Alan Moore then tells the story of what happens when Mickey forgets his magic word for 30 years. He is 42 out of shape and barely making ends meet as a freelance reporter. Until during a terrorist he finally remembers. It is an amazing deconstruction of the superhero. Alan Moore wrote the first 16 issues with art by Gary Leach Alan Davis Rick Veitch and John Totleben. Then Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham took over but unfortunately their story was never completed. It's a book I learned about when I was a kid reading interviews with some of my favorite creators. You see that it has inspired a lot of other creators and stories. For the longest time it was really difficult to find the issues . It was one if the first books I hunted down , The first issue I located was issue two. It's still one of my favorite single issues I have ever reads . The book was so difficult to find because published by Eclipse who went Bankrupt and the rights were broken up with some being bought by Todd McFarlane and it became a crazy legal battle. Marvel eventually got the rights and they will hopefully complete Neil Gaiman and Mark Buckingham's story. Sorry for information dump it's just a really interesting character and the back story about the character and the comic itself is really fascinating. Joe Mulvey has been creating some amazing commissions. He did a wonderful House of X commission at NYCC. In November I wrote him about creating a Miracleman piece and he knocked it out of the park. I love the way he created the shimmer effect of Miracleman's force field power. Thanks again to Joe for doing an amazing job on this piece . Social/Sharing |
