DescriptionMy first ever piece of art, purchased at my first ever comic convention, the 1983 SDCC, World’s Finest 286, Buckler/Giordano.I remember making my way towards the exit having spent the day in comic heaven, and I rounded a dealer’s table that end capped the first row by the main entrance - I’d almost made it out the door - and suddenly before me was of piles of OA. Literally, piles. No organization, all in haphazard stacks with little regard for condition. I had never seen OA before, and it took me a few seconds for my brain to connect the dots between the large black and white drawings on art board and their published newsprint counterparts. I bought this piece because the issue happened to be lying on the floor of my bedroom at the time (I had just read it before attending the con) and I had just enough to afford it (I think it was $35). Sadly, I don’t recall any other specific piece of art on the table, but I think it was a lot of “B” material and interiors. Probably for the best as I would have used those memories to torture myself for not buying them at the time. In a very nice gesture, my dad had it framed for Christmas that year and it hung on various walls for a couple of decades thereafter until I had it un-framed and conserved (the original framers didn’t matte it, but instead glued it directly to the backing board. Savages. Glue damage was not significant, though, and I’m sure I’ll never sell anyway just based on sentiment alone). Also, there is some sort of very minimal moisture buckling on the top right which was present at the time of purchase. Social/Sharing |

Great first piece by a classic artist! The more and more I see Buckler's stuff the more and more I like. Clearly lots of work done here with all of the bad guys drawn, with some nice inks accentuating by Giordano. Congrats!
