Description

      Adam Warren is one of my favorite artists and writers. Besides his longtime deviantart account, fans can keep up with his sexy superhero comedy (or not) tumblr and adam_warren_art instagram. Adam's own creation Empowered started as printed graphic novels from Dark Horse Comics with eleven volumes to date. Fans can read Empowered Comic online with creator commentary. The best way to keep up is to support the Adam Warren Patreon.

      I kept up a long run of annual Adam Warren commissions starting in 1998, but switched to buying original art when the artist made them available. As Emerald City did not go on in March this year, Adam reached out to me. These days, the artist is doing 11 x 14 con sketches and commissions with Sharpie marker and touches of blue and red color pencil. I requested the Bubblegum Crisis characters Priss and Nene as they had blue and red Knight Saber armor hardsuits. After these were complete, Adam sent scans and asked if I wanted the remaining two girls. Sylia wears a grey hardsuit and Linna wears a green hardsuit, but I remembered the outfits the girls wear underneath their armor. So I have all four girls this year which reminds me of my first Adam Warren Knight Sabers commission in 1998 when Adam used pencil on textured paper.

"Behold, a few more 11" X 14" commissions intended for delivery at the now-postponed (if not eventually cancelled) Emerald City Comic-Con, with the first one featuring Sylia and Linna from the vintage anime Bubblegum Crisis. (For the uninitiated, I wrote and drew a 4-issue Dark Horse Comics miniseries, 1994's Bubblegum Crisis: Grand Mal, featuring the characters; note also that our previous installment of conventionless con sketches featured two other characters from BGC.

The color-edged King-Size Sharpie "black aura" around the ladies is a new thing I tried with this set of sketches. For some reason, the blue seemed to work better than red, as you'll see.

The original, hand-drawn rough. Note that I had to tinker with scaling up both their heads in Photoshop before transferring the sketch to the final art board. Note also that the following cropped close-up of Linna's behind garnered a surprising 3500 likes on Instagram, which is the most response I've had on there in six months, if not a year.
