DescriptionWalter Simonson is one of the greatest comics artists of all time. As talented a writer as he is an artist, Walter is responsible for some of the greatest stories the medium has ever seen -- from the Star Slammers to the Beta Ray Bill saga. In a career that has spanned nearly half a century, his work has only gotten more and more innovative.Fans of Walter know that he has not done full scale commissions in decades. He has also held onto most of his original artwork. When his agent, Spencer Beck, announced that Walter would be taking on ten full size commissions, I immediately signed up. While I love Walter's Thor and Manhunter work as much as anyone, I have a particular fondness for his Star Wars work. Walter's Darth Vader remains my favorite rendition of the Dark Lord of the Sith in comics form. To my great joy, Walter agreed to depict Darth Vader with his lightsaber. Walter has been posting his progress on this commission on his Facebook page. When I saw him adding the Kirby Krackle to this piece as background, I was blown away. I think The King is smiling somewhere. Walter, besides being the best the comics industry has to offer, is also a consummate gentleman. Kind and patient, he is a model to other pros on how to interact with their fans. This piece measures 11" by 17" and is now my favorite commission ever. Thought I commented on this but must have been on another site! This is absolutely magnificent and it appears you were like me and eagerly saving those prelim and pencil shots Walt gave us a peak at. Look at all that Kirby Krackle - such a dynamic piece. Congrats my friend!

Thank you, my friend! The Kirby Krackle is my favorite part of the commission. We are both very, very lucky collectors to get these pieces from Walter.

Zounds! How fortunate to land an opportunity for a commission by the legendary Walter Simonson! He really did a stellar job on this--Heck, an interstellar job! Love the intricate detail Walt put into Vader's uniform. And the addition of Kirby Krackle to the background is inspired! Just a tremendous score--Congrats!
