Description

Where did kids get those wonderful toys in 1995? K-Mart, of course.

And where did they get their starter tattoos? Also K-Mart!

As discussed elsewhere, I am always looking for new and different 'Thing' team-ups that I can use as source material for my Marvel Two in One gallery. I was cruising through some old toy listings a few years back and found a couple of items that checked all the boxes of my "Thing and..." comic art theme.

With that in mind, pictured at left is the "Marvel Team Up Presents" toy 2-pack with the Thing and Spider-Man, as issued by Toy Biz as a K-Mart exclusive. Time has not been kind to these sets, as the plastic window on the packaging has yellowed considerably over the years on most examples I've seen.

Full credit to Chris Marrinan for everything you see here, including the choice of the Collector as the very appropriate villain for this drawing. Bill Anderson is a skilled inker of the highest order, as is clearly on display here.

A final note... believe it or not, that the figure of the Thing in the toy packaging art (upper-left side of the image above) was drawn by Neal Adams. Definitely a departure from his usual art style.
