This artwork is...pretty ugly. LOL! I hate saying that, because I recently corresponded with the artist, Steve Buccellato, and he's a really cool dude. And hey, he's drawn a lot of stuff, and I think his artwork is pretty great...just not here. Regardless, I wanted this piece for a number of reasons. It features one of my favorite teams: Power Pack. This particular issue takes place after the final issue of the original series, but before the Holiday Special that course corrected their continuity. So technically, this story doesn't feature the real Alex or Jim (Dad) Power, but rather silly-putty-like doppelgangers! It was written and drawn by the team that did the final issue of the main series. At the time Power Pack Vol. 1 was in print, there was a pretty strong and loyal group of readers that even went so far as to create their own fanzine, which got mentioned in the letters pages fairly often. At the bottom of this piece, there's a shout-out to that 'zine, which was called Power Lines. This is the final page of this story. And it was a followup to an obscure Fantastic Four issue that came out years before. All of these factors make this a fun piece to own, despite its not-so-beautiful artwork. Oh yeah, and this was the very first Power Pack piece I acquired.
