Description

I'm very happy to add this wonderful illustration by Valigursky to our collection. This is the cover art for the Andre Norton story (Ace Double, 1959 and later reprints). For me, this illustration perfectly captures the "juvenile" SF genre -- a spaceman racing away from his rocket under duress with his little pet alien (a "Hoobat" in this case). Although I have not read Andre Norton, this image captures the feel of the Heinlein juveniles I used to read as a kid (especially The Star Beast).

Valigursky was a master of slick tech design. I love the rocket with the landing gear emerging from the fins and kind of "completing" them. Very cool!

Thanks, yes, I would love to see an art book (or at least an issue of Illustration Magazine) dedicated to him. I'm still trying to find one of his robots ; )

Incredible pick up! Love the colors and costumes of the period. the Rocket is cool too and the composition is exciting for sure!! Big Congrats!!
