Description

Wonderful early Mickey Mouse Daily by the great Floyd Gottfredson. This is one of the very few surviving dailies from one of his 1940’s adventure storylines, “The Nazi Submarine” (YM 056). It’s the very FIRST daily from this storyline and therefore also the very first Mickey Mouse Daily to have been written by the great Bill Walsh.

It’s also (to my knowledge) the oldest surviving published artwork by Gottfredson, featuring Chief O’Hara (The character was conceived by Floyd Gottfredson and Merrill De Maris as a stereotypical Irish cop. He first appeared in the newspaper strips in May 1939, in the storyline "Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot".).
First published June 28th 1943, on double-tone board…
