Description

You would be hard-pressed to find a more exciting Johnny Comet strip, or to find a better example of why Frank Frazetta's comic strip work was so remarkable when compared to the rest of the "funny pages" fare. This Sunday is from very early in the short-lived run. The series ran for just over a year from 1-28-52 until 2-1-53, before changing its name and main character over to Ace McCoy. Heritage has offered very few of the Sundays from this fantastic series.
One of the things that makes this particular Sunday so special is the combination of Frazetta's fine figure work (most notably on Johnny and Jean Fargo), with his highly detailed and well-rendered mechanical drawing skills. Those cars look not only real, but real fast! Gorgeous pen shading makes the images pop off the page and gives them a feeling of depth and weight.
