Description

This is a very rare page for what was intended to be Vixen #1, and wound up seeing print in Cancelled Comic Cavalcade after the famous DC Implosion of 1978 when many books were cancelled. Mari McCabe / Vixen was intended to be the first African female DC superhero to star in her own series, but wound up making her first appearance in Action Comics #521 in 1981 instead. This is not just an outstanding page featuring great images of Mari in every single panel on the page, it is also quite simply one of the most important pages in the history of this very popular character. This is the page where she discovers for the very first time, that her necklace/talisman is actually the Tantu Totem, which allows her to harness the spirit of animals!

Vixen has become a favorite character for many, appearing in multiple incarnations of JLA and other Justice League books, as well as Suicide Squad, Bombshells, and important storylines such as Infinite Crisis, Final Crisis, and Flashpoint. More recently, many fans have come to know the character from the animated series, as well as the appearance of related characters such as Amaya Jiwe and Zari in the CW’s Legends of Tomorrow. This page in a sense, is where all those stories begin, and are tied together, with this one incredibly important discovery!

The page measures approximately 11 1/2" by 17". It has some scattered use of whiteout, mostly in the word bubble areas, as well as blue pencil circling and lettering indications. There are several tape strips on the back, as it looks like they stripped in lettering corrections in a few places. The large text block in the middle panel on the right side is pasted on. There are also what looks like some printer ink stains on the back side of the page, which is ironic, since the book did not officially see print! This is a truly rare opportunity, not only to acquire one of these mythical pages, but one of the absolute best, most important pages in the character's history. A grail for any Vixen fan!
