DescriptionHad to throw this up for my buddy Will. Biggest Cardy fan I know.
I’ve gotten many wonderful compliments from the fine people of CAF about my collection/gallery. All giving me credit for being smart enough to buy all the pieces I bought way back when. Well, now I’m about to show you all what an absolute idiot I was. Keep in mind that many of the pieces that currently reside in my collection came from these very same catalogs. So the next time you want to call me a genius for all the pieces I did buy back then, just take a look at some of the rubbish I DIDN’T buy! In other words, this is the collection I COULD‘VE had. (Somebody shoot me now! LOL) What is very interesting to note here is that during this 9-year span of catalogs (1984-1993), there is nothing here that is priced over (or anywhere near) $1000. Actually (with the exception of the Killing Joke page), nothing even breaks the $500 range. Absolutely incredible for pieces that could all easily be five figures (or more) today! By the way, I’ve got dozens and dozens of these. So I’ll be posting them in chunks from time to time (to prolong the torture). Social/Sharing |

I still have that Graphic Collectibles catalog somewhere... So I got the catalog and saw it. Calling Mitch was NOT the first thing I did. But later on at the next comic show (Creation Entertainment or Greenberg Great Eastern Con) in NYC, I saw Mitch still had it. THEN I wanted it. As they say, you've got to see it in person. My very first Cardy piece !!! I guess it's the best $125 I ever spent. What a slippery slope !! Very high. Very slippery.

Having been a repeated victim of the West Coast mail lag, I unfortunately was never able to adopt "Mitch still had it" as a mantra. As good as my collection might seem to some of you, it's basically built up of second choices. LOL! But I'm glad you were able to make this piece your first Cardy cover. I actually had no idea when I first decided to feature it here. And I believe you when you say it looks better in person. Of course it would also probably help if you didn't have such a tiny scan in your gallery. The size almost seems to indicate that you are ashamed of the piece isntead of being proud to proclaim it as you first Cardy cover. In any case, congrats on scoring it for the original price all those years ago. Great score buddy!

Ha ha. No shame. I love that cover. My scan of the Flash 230 cover is just small because that's how I was doing them at the time. My scans are bigger these days. I guess I should update my scans.

That's the very least your first Cardy cover deserves! Every time Bill updates the site to accommodate larger files, I always upgrade my scans. I think I'm now on my third generation of upgrades. Do you realize how much work is involved in scanning this entire collection three different times? LOL

I usually put reduced scans on CAF anyway. But in general, you're right in that my full sized scans (before reducing them for CAF) are bigger now than before.
