Description

Here is Mr. Hyde from issue #8 of The Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition by John Romita Jr. and Josef Rubinstein. According to Mike Burkey (whom I purchased this page from), this was light-boxed from John’s pencils separately and then inked by Joe (who apparently “embellished” the piece with the added puddle.

Oh shit, his water broke! Quick, Judas, call the hospital and let them know you're on your way!

Man, Ruben...I'm hoping that it is only "water" and not something else (i.e. #2)!

Well, I COULD have gone with the toilet humour, as that was my first instinct, but I figured most people would already be thinking that, so I went with my second thought, which was focused more on the humor than on being gross. 😄

Toilet humor among comic book/art collectors?!  Perish the thought!

I've seen 1 or 2 other such embellishments from Mr Rubenstein. The last one was a Marvel heroine on a...chilly day. Heh. This was always one of my favorite entries for OHOTMU. JRJR made Hyde so perfectly savage looking. Very nice score! Congrats!

Thanks for the info, J!  I was hoping mine wasn't the only piece that Mr. Rubinstein decided to "flourish"!

Such an odd addition of the puddle added by Joe, but fun nonetheless.

I'd have to agree!  Definitely odd...

Nice get! There's that Lockjaw turnaround from Master Edition...it has a poop stat/paste-on on the rear-view portion. Not sure if it's Rubinstein's doing...maybe a staffer's? I got that for a collector friend like 15 years ago. Just a FYI...should you decide to start a certain theme... ;)

Thanks for the extra info!  Unfortunately, I don't think I will be making "bodily fluids" a collecting theme.  I think I will stick to old, boring villains...

Not boring at all. Just underused or unfamiliar. That's one of the most appealing things about OHOTMU. Plus Mr. Hyde is a major addition so congrats!

Thanks!  I was only kidding about the "old, boring villains".  Trying to keep up the funny bits but I failed miserably.  Yet again!

I really do appreciate the comments, though J!

I have a clever, no prize answer to the troubling puddle. Stan would have said some guff like, 'it is a symbolic representation of his humanity slipping away.' Sounds plausible Marvel backpedaling logic. That Joe has some sensse of humor.

Thank you very much!  Honestly it was a bit out of my comfort zone price-wise but fortunately Mike Burkey gave a small discount and some lenient payment terms.

Yes, frightening dreams. Enough that I might wet the bed flushed with fear.  OK, I'm done - had to throw at least one in there.  Congrats, Benedict, on a fun conversation starting piece :)

Well, I wish I could take credit for it, K but this was all Josef Rubinstein...

You guys with all your toilet humor are disgusting and shameful!  Everyone knows when he is Mr. Hyde, he just has really sweaty balls.

The Romita Jr. and Big John Mr. Hyde's are my favourite. Mr Hyde is a really scary dude imo. Wouldn't wanna meet him in the dark.

Yup, I loved him when he was with Baron Zemo II and the Masters of Evil when they trashed the Avengers mansion and almost beat them.

Such a powerfully savage rendtion of Hyde! The puddle addition is somewhat hilarious...Rubenstein must have known what he was doing...

Yes, I have been hearing (and seeing) Joe Rubinstein's sense of artistic humor.
