10x14-3/8" thick artboard has mixed media original art by prolific and renowned Spanish Marvel Comics cover artist Rafael López Espí. Cover is for the El De Hombre Hierro Vol. 2 #4, which reprints Iron Man Vol. 1 #69 and #70 Aug. and Sept. 1974 (featuring the classic villains Mandarin & Sunfire, also backup story Hero For Hire #5) and was published in Spain by Mundi in 1980, ©1968 Marvel Comics Group. Artboard has been hand-painted from edge to edge but leaving strip at top for title w/art showing Iron Man hoisting a mechanic in the air during a fight, very different from Marvel's cover art by Ron Wilson and having nothing to do with storyline featuring two great villains. Espí's interpretation is unique and we are unsure of the inspiration. Art has two-piece vellum layout overlay which has extensive handwritten Spanish text (including title at top) and was once taped to back of artboard (which has since come loose). Also photocopy used for story title in book which also doesn't correspond to the cover art. Piece torn from bottom left. Back of artboard has handwritten "H. Hierro 4" at top in pencil. Tiny brown stain dot in white area of art. 10x10" image area. Artboard remains bright, clean and Exc. A wonderful example from the era when Espí's art dominated covers of Spanish Marvel comic books, featuring one of Marvel's popular characters and is unsigned by artist. Superb and dynamic cover art. Comes w/reading copy of the Spanish comic this cover art was created for.
