10x14-3/8" thick artboard has mixed media original art by prolific and renowned Spanish Comics cover artist Rafael López Espí. Cover is for Mandrake Vol. 1 #4, which reprints various Mandrake The Magician daily strip stories by Lee Falk and Fred Fredericks. ©1980 KFS, strips feature Mandrake and Lothar and was published in Spain. Artboard has been hand-painted from edge to edge w/art showing Mandrake and Lothar walking through a wall while pursued by armed guards. Art has two-piece vellum layout overlay which has extensive handwritten Spanish text (including title at top) and was once taped to back of artboard (it has since come loose). Back of artboard has handwritten "Mandrake 4" at top in pencil. Art remains bright and clean. Displays Exc. A wonderful example from the era when Espí's art dominated covers of Spanish comic books, featuring one of King Features Syndicate's popular characters and is unsigned by artist. Superb and dynamic cover art. Comes w/reading copy of the Spanish comic this cover art was created for.
