10x14-3/8" thick artboard has mixed media original art by prolific and renowned Spanish Comics cover artist Rafael López Espí. Cover is for DC Comics SHAZAM Vol. 1 #11, which reprints various Captain Marvel stories. First story is C.C. Beck credited w/©1950, others include Marvel Family and was published in Spain circa 1970s, ©DC Comics, Inc. Artboard has been hand-painted from edge to edge w/art showing Shazam punching an exploding rocket. Art has two-piece vellum layout overlay which has extensive handwritten Spanish text (including title at top) and is taped to back of artboard. Back of artboard has handwritten "Shazam 11" at top in pencil. Art remains bright but has some scattered marks wear paint loss has occurred. Displays VF. A wonderful example from the era when Espí's art dominated covers of Spanish comic books, featuring one of DC's popular characters and is unsigned by artist. Superb and dynamic cover art. Comes w/reading copy of the Spanish comic this cover art was created for.
