Description

Besides film preproduction work, Ralph McQuarrie also occasionally did projects for Lucasfilm licensees with mostly books and posters. McQuarrie however in one occasion worked with a toy company, Galoob Toys which was based in South San Francisco (Hasbro acquired Galoob in 1998). He created six stunning packaging artworks in late 1995 to 1997 for their popular Star Wars Micro Machines line. It was around the time Lucas theatrically released the Star Wars Special Edition. This was McQuarrie's last Star Wars related project.

This gorgeous painting is the preliminary to the final piece used for Galoob's Death Star playset. Far as I'm aware, all but two final packaging artworks are in the collection of Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (Lucas Archives).

Absolutely amazing art. The historical signifigance and the artisitc ability rival each other. One day I hope to add a McQuarrie to my collection.
