APOCALYPSE now . . . one of the good guys!

An outstanding cover purchased directly from Huddleston when he was auctioning off art for a charity early 2020. I am thrilled to have a piece of Hickman’s DAWN OF X, which really revamped all the X titles and set up an amazing new universe for the X-Men to play in. So many great new and revisited stories, characters, themes, locations and lots of new toys to play with in this new X-era.

Huddleston was specifically chosen by Hickman to make a set of variant covers for both the HOUSE OF X and POWERS OF X series. Every cover he came out with was a personal favorite amongst the many variants that were pushed out for each book.

Apocalypse is a favorite villain of mine, mainly from the AGE OF APOCALYPSE era, since in took place during my prime time youth of collecting and reading comics. He represented primal purity power, that only the fittest will survive and how could the X-Men ever compete against a power house like this. Yet they prevailed time after time against a creature/timeless mutant known as En Sabah Nur.

Huddleston put Apocalypse in the SAVAGE LAND, the primal place where man was pitted against beast for survival, couldn’t think of a better place to capture Apocalypse’s regal power, he is truly the king of this jungle.

Hickman in his wonderful storytelling, flipped the script and made Apocalypse one of the “good” guys. I am curious to see what will come of this character next after the not-so-amazing X OF SWORDS.

I am still kicking myself for not bidding on any of these when they were being auctioned off. All of the covers were really brilliant. So glad you were able to snag this one. And thanks for posting it! Now I can come visit when I need some eye candy. Huge congrats!

Apocalypse seems too intelligent, too long-lived to carry on with a one-track mindset of evil indefinitely. Curiosity piqued. Somber art with the perfect balance of gravitas and power, congrats man!

Wow, what a cool piece. The interesting proportions together really work here. Savage land with a T-Rex always rocks. Time for me to start paying attention to Huddleston.
