DescriptionThis one is for my friend Landon. A great artist in his own right, Landon may be Ron Lim's most devoted fan. He basically confessed that he learned so much just by looking at Ron's art. Hope you love it as much as I do, man ;)Now onto the art. Before exploding on Silver Surfer and all things cosmic at Marvel as a super star of the late 80s/90s, Ron Lim drew many great fill ins issues on many series (Marvel Comics presents, Excalibur, What if come to mind) but this particular issue of Daredevil was burned into my teenage mind. To me this remains one if not Ron Lim's best fill in ever, introducing Bengal. The story by Fabian Nicieza was great and emotionally intense, the art as well and Bengal's design really appealed to my young ninja-loving mind. And simply put, it is a great design. The frensy of the fight is really well conveyed as is the difficulty DD is experiencing against his foe. I especially love the second panel with Lim managing to show us how angry Bengal is just looking at his eyes, The last one with Bengal using his saļ to slide down the rope is another panel I love and that was burned in my memory. In between, we also have great shots of DD including that fifth panel with him performing the great mandatory aerial acrobatics but for me, the page is all about Bengal. The page is not perfect of course, an overlong leg on DD or the fact that he seems a bit small somehow in panel 4 but that's nitpicking. A word on Jim Sanders III's inks on that issue. While early in their collaboration, I always felt like he complemented Ron's art tightly, more so than Christopher looser inks at the end of their Surfer run for instance. Delighted to add this one as pages from that particular issue are scarce. My first page by Ron Lim as well. Now I really wouldn't mind a nice early Surfer or a Cap A page but I will have to fight for one (and/or be lucky). Social/Sharing |

Neat! I love Lim, so I was interested in the dates. His first full Surfer issue (#15) and this both came out in September of 1988.

Cool page, F M - congrats! I especially like the movement from panel 4 down into panel 5, where your eye "drops" DD directly down where he's supposed to go, thanks to the nice placement and set up in panel 4. Great first Lim page - nice pick up!

Like a combination of Lim's Cap and Spider-Man, Daredevil has all the power and the graceful fluidity to get elevate the chase into a high wire tension filled sequence!

Yes, definitely one of the more beloved fill-in issues of the 80's. I always loved the Bengal's costume design, which makes for very interesting visuals. The Sanders inks are very tight, which I really like. Pages from this issue have scarcely turned up over the decades, so you're fortunate to own a page from this issue!

I remember this issue well as it was fun to see Lim drawing DD. His style works well with the character and definitely made me want to see him do more issues. Huge congrats!

Love the chosen angles on this page. You get a great sense of DD staying just ahead of Bengal, trying to control and understand the situation. I hear what you're saying on panel 4, but I really dig that scene, it's just great DD action. This was a great issue. Thanks for sharing. Congrats!

Big congrats, F. This, too, is one of my favorite single issue stories ever. Blew me away as a kid as far as the more serious story, the art itself, the action, and this new character the Bengal. He's fighting DD here but no way was he a bad guy! I got a couple pages fromt the issue, too, that I cherish and yours is a GREAT example.
