Blackhawk. Nemesis. Crossfire.

It�s fair to say that Dan Spiegle drew a good portion of my childhood and teen comic-reading years.

Spiegle wasn�t P�rez or Byrne. However, he was a consummate artist and draftsman who always delivered solid and often spectacular art.

He was definitely at the top of his game on Crossfire, the Eclipse Comics series he drew (scripted by Mark Evanier). This double page splash from issue #5 of the series is a great example of how inspired Spiegle was by Evanier�s scripts featuring a costumed hero based in Hollywood.

Look at the vertiginous perspective. To top it off, the focus of the page isn�t even on the title hero, Crossfire�who appears only in the lower right. Instead, Spiegle makes the assassin of the story the central focus of the page�mere moments before he bungees down to claim his victim.

Crossfire was a fun series and a true collaboration between writer and artist. Some savvy publisher should definitely collect it.

Phenomenal page design. Mark Evanier has commented on newsfromme.com that Spiegle was one of the best comic book artists to ever live. This piece helps to prove that point.

I agree with everything you wrote. Spiegle was never flashy but always impeccable. And Crossfire was likely the best title Evanier ever wrote and a fantastic series due to Spiegle great art & storytelling.

Just a gorgeous piece of work. The art speaks for itself. This is a rare DPS that tells a story and not a pose page. Great addition.

Wow, such a great piece! Such a fun perspective to draw the scene from and I adore the fine rendering lines on the antagonist as well. Great stuff, Mark, congrats!
