Description

Avengers West Coast was a favorite of mine growing up and this rag-tag era which had the Julia Carpenter Spider-Woman and Mockingbird in it was particularly fun and soap opera(ey?) Dave Ross had just that right combo of quirk and power that I found super engaging.

He was more than happy to do a piece featuring these two characters and to my absolute thrill included a fallen Spidey giving that extra oomph to this as Julia and Bobby act as protectors.

Dynamic duo to the rescue!  Great poses, and love the faces on both super ladies.  WCA was a fave of mine, too!  Congrats, E!

Thanks, bud! I'm stacking on the nostalgia here!

The Mockingbird pose has great foreshortening and shows off that lean athletic toned build in a martial arts stance!  In conjunction, Spider-Woman uses a flying pose to indicate her power set is different.  Meanwhile, Spider-Man uses a I'm not conscious pose to just be eye candy to the two stars in this composition.

I must confess I cared less for AWC after the conclusion of the Byrne/Ryan run.

But this still brings back fun memories and I especially like Mockingbird here.

And the addition of Spidey shows you that Dave is an artist who cares both about his craft and about the satisfaction of his client-fan.

Couldn't agree more about Dave's dedication to the craft. I was shocked when he showed me Spidey in his layout but it made so much sense for his overall vision for the piece.

And I can see why the Byrne/Ryan act was a hard one to follow. The Thomas/Ross era was just kicking off when I entered comics so from a nostalgic perspective, that's the one that sticks for me. The team was so B/C grade it was endearing to me :)

Great Image, always a fan of Mockingbird, and I was a huge fan of West Coast Avengers, I feel like it doesnt get the credit it rightly deserves, in that era I would think that West Coast Avengers was alot more fun than the Avengers title

Yes! A fellow AWC fan! That era was definitely FUN man....what a weird blend of characters and it actually made me like US Agent. Also that was my first exposure to Julia Carpenter and I loved her costume. Living Lightning...not so much...

Aw thanks, David! I try to keep to my Cable/Mystique/Ghost Rider trinity based on artist style but occasionally you gotta go with what you love from a specific artist. And Dave rocked it with Julia and Bobby!
