Description

The first story appearance in Dredd of one Marlon Shakespeare. Better known as the sky-surfer ‘Chopper’.

This is from the final part of the tale, and beautifully illustrated by the late, great Ron Smith.

Hard to imagine now, but I didn’t always appreciate Ron’s work when compared to the likes of Bolland, McMahon, Gibson et al. Times and tastes change. I now recognise that Ron was undoubtedly the greatest interpreter of Mega City One, and the resident crazies and oddballs who populated it.

Thanks to Mr.Rotten for allowing me to be the next custodian.

Fabulous art and a historic story. Incredible how much story Ron could cram into a single page and never seem rushed or cluttered.

Have to confess that I was another who didn't appreciate Ron's artwork as a kid but now love it. No one can top Ezquerra but Ron is certainly one of the greats when it comes to Dredd.

Historic story! Great, crisp lines. Smith likes to vary figure poses, and there is plenty of that on display - with a nice closing shot of Dredd. I love Dredd's snarling call to stamp out the lawbreaking!
