Description

I have been on the hunt for a good Adam Strange page by Infantino/Anderson for some years. They have not come up very often and so when a few came up at Heritage Auctions, I set my sights on finally bringing in one. Although I regret not having gone after one of the splashes more aggressively, I am happy with the pair of pages I got. My goals were to get Adam and Alana flying with their jet packs and some ray gun action. I got all that in these 2 pages plus some Hawkman. Looking at the last page, I can see the influence of strip artists like Caniff on the layout and designs. I happy to finally have some Adam Strange in my collection. As many have mentioned, the last panel is very similar to the cover image. See additional images for the cover.

Elegant work from layouts to finished page.  The Last panel is silver age DC Sci-Fi at its finest.

That last panel is pure space Infantino.

The beauty of the last panel should not be underestimated.

Congrats on a wonderful page and especially that amazing last panel which is the basis of the cover of the issue ... which is stunning and my favorite Adam Strange cover.

This made an immediate impact on me and I didn't know why at first. Upon further thought, it has something to do with the composition and movement of the page as a whole. 1-3-1 panels = balance. The action in the top panel goes right to left and the bottom panel goes left to right. The second panel action goes up and the third panel goes down. The 4th panel in profile is in sharp contrast to the other panels providing visual interest while also moving from background to foreground. The inking is crisp, a nice combination of delicate and bold lines. Sorry for the geeky analysis but I had to try understand why the page worked. I think these were all deliberate choices on the part of Infantino who is really one of the most underrated talents in comics.

Also just noticed... the top panel goes black white black and the bottom goes white black white. Mindblowing genius page. This is such a winner. Mega congrats!

Thanks for the thoughtful analysis.  I agree, many times there are a lot brilliant nuances that add to a pages appeal that if done correctly are not at all obvious.

I'm with the consensus. The last panel is sci-fi heaven.

I like this page more than the splash.  The bottom image is the cover image and it's just so good in so many respects.

Covr image panels are always such a treat to own and Hawkman rocks. You gotthe best page of the bunch. The Adam Strange figure on the big splash is so awkwardly posed, I'm glad you got this one instead!

As many pointed out, the last panel apes the cover, and both are phenomenal!
