Description

After 35 or so issues by Sal Buscema, Giffen proved a very suitable replacement, providing energetic and kirbyesque art to intense plots and scripts by Kraft.

On this page we have two top panels dedicated to the villain of the storyline, with Kirby crackles applied to magic and full black inks used to add threat and drama to the villain's close-up (a technique perfected later on by Miller).

Then we have the wonderfuld Valkyrie and Aragorn half splash. Aragorn really steals the show here. Giffen's talent shines here, with a full frontal shot of the steed, and it feels like Aragorn is really leading the charge here.

Great layouts, amazing inks (as usual by Janson), fantastic storyline, Marvel Bronze Age magic!

Impressive page with all those great battle-eager Marvel ladies, with Valkyire topping the rest of the bunch for sure, I even love her winged "my-little-pony", by Odins bristling beard ! Superb art with especially nice inks by Janson, huge congrats !

I absolutely love this page! Janson did such an amazing job elevating Giffen's pencils on the Defenders! This issue was also dedicated to my favorite bank, Rush!

I wonder how many in the crowd are real Marvel staffers? Calculated girl power panel as the male Defenders were taken out by Rajah's magic in an earlier battle. The ladies even went to recruit Clea, instead of a male hero, who eventually defeats Rajah and frees the male Defenders.

In my book, Klaus Janson can do no wrong, and this page proves it. Love that last panel with all the powerful Marvel Lady Superheroes. Of course Valkyrie steals the show. I need more pieces with Valkyrie ... Congrats!!

Girl Power page! Giffen puts down such dynamic layouts, and those rich black inks from Janson look great. The angle on that last panel was a great choice. Very nice page. Congrats!

I mean ... as classic a Marvel late 70s page as you can imagine with an iconic final panel. Giffen's run on the Defenders was fantastic.

Giffen better than Buscema? In my opinion, yes! Maybe because I'm not crazy for Sal, but Keith shows a better panels development and more unusual ideas. Supported by Janson is pure magic. The last panel is a gem. Cool women pick!
