DescriptionIn case you haven't noticed, I have serious problem going on with Milton Caniff art. I am hopelessly addicted, especially to the pre-war dailies that tie in with any of the romances. Here is an example that most people wouldn't look twice at, but I like. It features Normandie Drake and the most loathsome of humans, her husband Tony Sandhurst. The rich heiress was all set to marry her love, the ruffian Pat Ryan when her family intervened in the middle of the night drugging and kidnapping her. The next time we see her she is stuck forever with Sandhurst who we see here wallowing in self-pity in this daily. Normandie still secretly loves Pat and that comes up several times in the future but as women of the 1930's and 40's did, she stuck by her marriage vows and tried to over come her unrequited love. The Normandie and Ryan romance is only surpassed by the Kane and Lee romance in being my favorite story lines/relationships. There are times I like it better but the innocence and drama of Terry's first love will win the day.Social/Sharing |

I'm sure this reads much better in context with the rest of the story, but reading this single strip alone makes me want to vomit. There are few things in this life that I abhor more than snivelling, spineless weaklings who behave the way Sandhurst is on this daily. Ugh.... Love the art though!

Beautiful Normandie strip. Sandhurst was an amazing character, one of the standouts in a cast that was full of standouts.

Glad you snagged this one. Those blue wash strips are some of Caniff's best. Such an elegant line to match the drama of story.
