DescriptionOlivier Coipel - Avengers vs. X-Men #7 p 22-23 (Phoenix Namor floods Wakanda in AvX)Thank you so much to Conny for making this dream come true. You were very flexible and considerate with me as I chipped away at making this a reality for my 34th birthday today. With Namor being my favorite character in any superhero universe, I couldn't be more proud to own such an iconic and important piece. He will forever be tied to his feud with Black Panther, with this moment being the most memorable and infamous of them all. I imagine this scene will be coming to the MCU soon enough, with or without the Phoenix force. This grail doesn't just stop at its impact in comics history, but it's also one of the most beautiful pages as well. Olivier has a painterly eye, and knocked this composition out of the park. It builds in energy, it flows, and has a sense of grace to the impending destruction. Love the Atlantean army in silhouette, as well as the depth given by contrasting the waves with Wakanda. Mark Morales, as always, elevated everything with his contributions. Social/Sharing |

Thanks for the nice comment - it means a lot coming from a fellow Namor fan!

A double pager cliffhanger or wavehanger! The grand majesty of Namor commanding his warriors is as powerful as the wave leading the attack! One simple word over two pages is enough to get that next issue into your hold box.

There's something special about the final page of an issue, let alone the double pager wavehanger haha. Also, I totally agree that less can be more, and that one word on this page spoke volumes.

WHOO! I'm a only 13.5 months late here, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Now THAT'S the way to celebrate! :) What an awesome and terrifying piece with an incredible sense of fluid movement to it; I love how the viewer's eye starts with Namor in the top left corner of panel 1, and then smoothly pops out into the larger spread thanks to the angle of the wave's eruption... It's all (literally) downhill from there as one's eye continues flowing with the water down into Wakanda...
An stunning narrative moment that seeded a slew of brilliant comics (in Hickman's 'New Avengers' run) and (you called it!) an excellent MCU film! Great pick up, Kevin! Congrats!
