Description

The Steel Claw started in the first issue of Valiant, a British comic that debuted in 1962. The Steel Claw was widely popular and continued until 1970 and then quickly returned as the Return of the Claw until 1973. The series was reprinted several times and saw distribution in Germany, India and Sweden. Blasco's art is top notch and I believe you can see how it might have influenced may of the British artists including David Lloyd. The Steel Claw saw several modern day revivals under different names and made some cameo appearances in other works by Alan Moore and Grant Morrison.

The basic story is Louis Crandell lost his hand in a lab accident and so a prosthetic hand was created. In a later accident he found that he could turn invisible with the exception of his hand. Initially he used these powers to steal and commit crimes but later began to use these powers to fight crime. The claw comes with some special weapons like being able to fire missiles and release gas. Although I have yet to read any of these (I'd love to), I thought it was a fun, goofy character like Archie Robot and the imagery of this metal hand running around and fighting crime was fun. It reminded me of Thing from the Addams family.
