DescriptionPete Hawley worked as an illustrator back in the 50s and 60s and is well known for his Jantzen swimwear art. Here are 3 fashionable Hawley ladies that beautifully illustrate what he was all about. Although these appear to be simple sketches.. the art speaks volumes about the era and about what a master artist Pete was. Consider for example the bold characteristic of his line quality. For those wondering about the tape.. yup it's tape. This is how the art came and while I may one day get the pieces separated and restored .. I kind of like the story this tells about the art as is presented here. If you enjoyed these..look up the artist name here on CAF. There are several amazing finished pieces to be found. Thanks for checking this out. PS. Thanks Fred W for finding and sharing the Actual Ads in which these images appeared! Social/Sharing |

The tape on this doesn't bother me one bit. Where's a beach ball when you need one?

The hourglass figures used as the swimsuit models were the ideal of femininity and Hawley applies that shape caressing line to accentuate the contours and finer points. The facial expressions and their demeanor also help emphasize how the swimsuits would make them feel. It reminds you of how important costume designs still are and how influential this type of art has been in comics. It's also been copied by lots of girl comics that use fashion pin up pages. If that doesn't excite the Image crowd, then consider that huge elbow strike to the head and this would be in those swimsuit specials that were influenced by the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition.

Are you sure you did not moonlight, writing the descriptions for the 'art' magazines that claimed to be aid's to help you draw and paint? Lets just leave it at nice swimsuit art. Short and sweet, like these half legless ladies. Thats why the number one Groo fan wanted these. Easier to pick up when they cannot run.....

Hawley was all about the GGA. And I like the tape, too. It's vintage.
