Description

The Legion Companion was a great book by Glen Cadigan published by TwoMorrows in 2003. The book featured interviews with many of the great Legion of Super-Heroes creators and is well worth picking up if you get the chance.

Dave Cockrum was commissioned to draw the cover and I own the original art to his pencil/ink version, which I bought directly from Dave in 2003. I've included a scan of Dave's version, which I may upload separately to CAF at some point.

Due to Dave's health issues at the time, the finished inking wasn't quite up to his usual standards, so the publishers decided to ask Joe Rubinstein to re-ink the artwork using a lightbox. I bought the published inked version of the art directly from Joe also in 2003.

Props to Joe as he did a really nice job of finishing the piece while keeping the overall Cockrum look and feel. As you can see, the art board has some warping on the top half where it must have gotten wet at some point.

I really enjoyed this book and the similar books that Twomorrows published around the same time re: the Flash, Superman and the Teen Titans. It's wonderful to see the original art from the cover - thanks for sharing it!

This is Fantastic. It points to a bright future for the DC Universe and to a past version of the Legion that still nostaglically fills us with joy today
