DescriptionJackson “Butch” Guice and Bob Layton - Solo Avengers #7 Cover Starring Hawkeye and Black Widow, 1987, Pen and Ink with Zip-A-Tone and Logo Overlay, 11 x 17, Signed. *Sold*Jackson “Butch” Guice is an American Comic Book Artist who was born on June 27, 1961 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. At 10 years old, he decided to become a comic book author and artist. However, he did not follow an artistic course - but instead learned by studying the works of the undisputed masters in the field: Noël Sickles, Alex Kotzky, Ross Andru, Milton Caniff, Frank Robbins and Alex Raymond. In 1981, he began inking at Astral for Warlords of Light and Galaxia Magazine. He then moved over to Guild, where he worked on Crusaders and The Southern Knights, followed by a stint on Badger for First Comics. He was quickly discovered by Marvel, where he penciled for a variety of series - most notably The Micronauts, Avengers, Dr. Strange, Indiana Jones, The New Mutants, Iron Man, X-Factor, and Thor. He was later approached by DC, and began what would become a long-standing association with them. Here, he worked on the relaunch of The Flash (with Geoff Johns) and on a variety of their most popular titles - Batman, Superman, Agent Liberty, Action Comics, DC/Marvel: All Access, Resurrection Man, and Birds of Prey. During this highly prolific time period, he worked with various other publishers as well, including Acclaim Comics (Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, Turok), Disney Comics (Little Mermaid, Hercules, Toy Story, Dinosaurs), Dark Horse (Terminator: End Game, Aliens vs. Predator) and Harris Comics (Creepy). 2001 saw his career take him to CrossGen Comics where he co-created and drew the highly-acclaimed Ruse series with writer Mark Waid. CrossGen became well-known for innovative genre stories created by some of the best in the industry. As a company, it quickly rose to the #3 position as a premiere publisher, often outselling many a Marvel and DC title. Unfortunately, this growth, combined with poor business and financial decisions, led to the company's demise in 2004. Jackson then began an association with the premier international publisher Humanoïdes Associés in 2004, where he collaborated with his longtime friend Geoff Johns on the Graphic Album Series Olympos. The second and final volume to this series was published in France in 2005. More recently, he debuted the new Humanoïdes Graphic Album Series Mandalay with writer Philippe Thirault. This saga of adventure, war, and the fantastic offers an image of Burma torn between ancestral imperialism and ancient rites. He also produced Metal with Jerrold E. Brown and Paul Alexander, which debuted the second half of 2006 from Humanoïdes Associés. Jackson Guice has recently returned to DC to collaborate with writer Kurt Busiek on Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, which re-imagines Aquaman, his origin, and his place in the DC Universe.
