Description

This is a pretty nice example of stunning contrasts and miraculous brushstrocks Alex Raymond used, with compelling use of blacks, no wondering why so many artists admired and copied his style. This is from the story Hell Hath No Fury ...

And to have a bit perspective what was served for readers... there is prints from the microfilmed dailies in the Finnish biggest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, when they published this Rip Kirby daily first time in 1959, 2nd time in 1994 and later in a book again in 2011. As you can see, printing quality in the newspapers was horrifying bad, and still, people loved Alex Raymond's Rip Kirby! And I guess the same thing was in every country, when reading printed Rip Kirby dailies in newspapers one didn't have the slightest idea how awesome original artwork could be! For some reason, Helsingin Sanomat made every time a new translation when they published Rip Kirby dailies.

As an additional extra which is speaking to me... I am a freediver and that's why Lili's reply is simply hilarious! ;-)

I just noticed the Finnish version used a different translation in 1994, but I can't tell if the differences were significant.

Beautiful brushwork on this daily. Raymond was always pushing himself and his technique.
