DescriptionTony Millionaire, a fellow Massachusetts native, was one of the cartoonists who emerged from the alt-weekly newspaper scene in the 90s (Alison Bechdel, Lynda Barry, etc.) His pen and ink (or is it brush?) work had a classic illustration style, while his humor was dark and bizarre (I use the past tense, not sure what he's up to now). Here he creates a glorious insect milieu in a garden setting. This is one of three pages I bought via "Comic Art Collection" in 2002... had the pleasure of picking them up from Tony at his place outside L.A.Social/Sharing |

Millionaire's elite illustrative style works against the what you'd normally exect from a story with the humor. However, the more detailed and classic he makes it look, the more funny it is to show modern themes done up like classics.
