Description

Batman (Vol 3) #71 Cover Original Art (DC, July 2019). Batman has his work cut out for him as he has to face off against both Bane and the Thomas Wayne Batman! This issue is the second of a 5 part series titled "The Fall and the Fallen", with the subtitle "Home Invasion!" on the published cover. Home Invasion is definitely the theme here, as the cover features Batman on a stairwell in Wayne Manor with a Venom'ed up Bane and Thomas Wayne Batman leaping toward him. The cover was penciled and inked by the amazing Andy Kubert, and he did the first 2 covers in this arc (I also have the Batman 70 cover). There is so much going on in this cover, and it is a sight to behold in person. It is easy to get lost in it, from the shadows being cast on the stairwell by Batman, to the shading in Bane and Thomas Wayne to reflect where the light source is coming from, to the insane details in each character. The framing is also really nice, demonstrating nice three-dimensional depth as you flow back into the very large window in the background. Kubert is a modern master, and this cover ranks up there with anything he has done in my opinion. Done on standard 11" X 17" art board. Signed on the middle far left by Andy.

Nice! This drawing is done in beautiful perspective, with the placement of the 3 figures making for a lovely composition. Really fabulous looking cover, I must say. Nice acquisition, David!

It looks like a combination of Neal Adams 70's Detective Comics covers as this would fit quite well with the style and age when Batman took on more supernatural cases. The work of the outstretched habds are very smartly done to add drama!

Superb cover! Love the POV here, looking up the stairs to the action. The exaggerated size of Bane and the attacking Thomas Wayne Batman make the action all seem to be happening on top of us. The rich blacks also frame the scene and push the characters towards us. Stunning work by Kubert!

Nice composition, and I think Kubert's so adept at exaggerating proporations, energy, perspective, etc, JUST the right amount. Witness exhibit A :) Congrats!
