DescriptionPublished in Galaxy Science Fiction magazine February 1967.Illustration for the conclusion of the Jack Vance story 'Palace of Love'. Gray Morrow was an artist that worked in illustration, comics and animation. He worked for all the major comic publishers. As an illustrator, he is known for his illustrations for Galaxy and his painted covers for the Perry Rhodan novels. Jack Vance is one of my favorite Science Fictions authors and I had the pleasure of meeting him at the World Science Convention in 1992. The Palace of Love was the third novel in the 'Demon Princes' five novel saga where the sole survivor of a devastated village sets out to take revenge on the five criminals responsible - the so called 'Demon Princes'. Here the protagonist, Keth Geren, confronts the third Demon Prince, Viole Falushe, an impotent megalomaniac ironically fixated on sex, while a servant tries to protect his master. Social/Sharing |

Morrow is great at illustration more than superhero work and it's nice that this is done fully in ink as opposed to the later work that has the marker pens that turn purple. They also show his talent, but this would probably be more appreciated without the distraction.

A nice illustration. It doesn't escape my notice that Morrow employed Al Williamson's artistic approach on this piece, rather than his own that he's known for.

I would not be surprised if the main figure was swiped from a Williamson Flash Gordon strip.

Professor Creepy, with the candlestick, on the patio. Did I guess right? That's a really nice illustration by Morrow. It's a very well laid out scene, with great visual storytelling. And really nice inks, too. Thanks for sharing, and classing up the joint a bit. Congrats!

Wonderful illustration. Very accurate to the book. Morrow knocked it out of the park.
