Description

Illustration by the great Virgil Finlay that was used as the cover (and colorized) for the September 20, 1941 issue of Argosy. It illustrates "Guerilla Warrior" by Robert Carse. Unfortunately, at some point someone cut off a piece of the board from the lower right, affecting the soldier in the lower middle. I scanned the pulp cover and did a quick combination of the two (my photoshop skills are pretty non-existent); you can tell the pasted up portion by the difference in shading and tone.

Beautiful piece, Doug. It figures a hard core Science Fiction fan like you would manage a way to go into the future and acquire an illustration from the Argosy relaunch 919 years in the future!*

*Now DON'T go and correct it, otherwise my comment won't make any sense to anyone! 😀

The work around the flash of gunfire is amazing as it is right at the point of focus of this composition.
