DescriptionThis page is from the first issue that kicks off the eight-part story "Ending Battle." I always say this is Superman's "Hush", but no one listens to me. Not even Superman fans. But it is. Kinda reminds me of a lot of things. Being a Wednesday Warrior going to the local comic shop in Culver City with my buds. Getting into flame wars online in the Wizard World Super-Hero Showdown forum over who could beat-up who in fights. Superman is still wearing his 'in mourning' 'S' Shield post the events of Our Worlds At War. There's an attack at the White House from The Master Jailer and Neutron and since Clark Kent happens to be visiting his best pal, Vice President Pete Ross, Superman quickly shows up on the scene. Superman knocks Neutron into a wall on this page and there's a brief hint here about the mastermind behind "Ending Battle." Also you probably can't see it from the scan, but the hint is over-emphasized with a covered up mental balloon saying "You will fight him like an animal." One of my unfulfilled goals in collecting comic art is to find a page with one of those all time epic lines of dialogue. Something that moved me or something that just really spoke to me and I held onto. This isn't quite that, but there is something cool about visualizing Jim Croce's song "You Don't Mess Around with Jim." Especially when you spent hours arguing about Goku or whoever else "tugging on Superman's cape" on a message board in the early 00's. Social/Sharing |

Early aughts Superman was my favorite period for the Superman books aside from 1986-1994. Solid art and writing across the line, and President Lex was a lot of fun. Great art by Ferry here!

Great top two panels marrying works and action lines and characters in full impact! The following two panels are also diametrically opposing in direction, coming and going.

Awesome page. What a punch through the panels. Love the form within the bottom two panels.

Ferry's underrated IMO. Love his sublime line work, and his unique stylization. Today, most of his work is pencil only, which is great, but it's awesome to see these stark inks over his stuff. Smith did his thang! Congrats, Derek!
