DescriptionThe past few years were rough to say the least. Dealing with the passings of my brother, father and mother within a 2 year span was devastating. In addition to dealing with the pandemic, as all of us did, my previous job laid me off along with hundreds of employees in the company. So finding any funds for art purchases during the past 2 years was hard to come by. In October of 2020 I started working full time again and that started my finances back on the road to recovery. I watched from afar as amazing pieces of art changed hands and knew it would be a few years until I could jump back in the collecting pool. Toward the end of last year I had sold a few other pieces from my collection and did some window shopping during the Comic Art Live sale. I found a few pieces I couldn't pass up on and the sellers were gracious enough to work with fair time payments with me.This is one of those pieces! I've made no secret of my love for Bill Willingham's work on The Elementals, particularly his earlier issues. Meeting Bill at a local convention in 1986 landed me my first con sketch and first original piece of art! This page is from the inaugural First issue! I've been fortunate to find a couple of pages from this issue over the past 10 years and welcomed the opportunity to add another when it became available. This page features the first, short lived costume of Fathom. Thank you to Jeff for offering me not only a great page but the opportunity to purchase this on a payment plan that worked for my recovering budget! Social/Sharing |

Sorry to hear about your tremendous loss. At least the art department is keeping you busy as you move forward. A real score from a unique series. Congrats.

I am glad this page found its way to you. No one is more deserving of this art and a worthy addition to your collection after the struggles you have had. I am glad I could play a part in that.

That's a tough series of losses to go through, my sympathies go out to you. Artwork has its time and place, so it is good to see that you're at a place to get back to collecting. Pages like this don't come along often. They often carry along with them some joyous memories and feeling that is certainly needed these days.

Thank you everyone for the kind words that were sent both publically and pivately. We all go through rough stages of our lives, but I am thankful for the great people of this community who I have had the pleasure of doing great deals with over the years. I am even more thankful for the friendships I've made through our common love of comic art. Acquiring a few new pieces has helped to take my mind off of recent, traumatic losses and given me a little bit of normalcy back into my life.

Hi Rich, Thanks for sharing your story about your challenges over the past few years. Sorry about your losses. I have a strangely similar arc over the last few years . . . loss of a parent, family strife, job loss. It was finally meeting George Pérez in 2019 that rekindled my love of comics, and art at a time when I needed a distraction. I have multiple copies of Elementals #1 and Justice Machine someplace in a long box downstairs. Pleased to see a fan of the comic has art from that book (which I really thought was going to be a big hit . . . that's why I bought multiple copies!!). -Tom
