Published 1989.
Quasar originated as an effort to revive a Golden Age hero, Marvel Boy.
Marvel Boy was a hero created by Stan Lee and Russ Heath in 1950.
He had received his costume and his Quantum Bands by the Uranians and returned to Earth to fight crime.
He was brought back as the Crusader, an antagonist of the Fantastic Four in 1975 by Roy Thomas and George Perez in 1975 and he died fighting the FF. This story was later retro-conned to say that this villain was not the original Marvel Boy.
Later his Quantum Bands were acquired by a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Wendell Vaughn, who initially was given the code name Marvel Boy. He eventually settled on the name Quasar and became one of Marvel's cosmic heroes.

Nice! A wonderful example of the very solid Ryan/Bulanadi team and from a very early issue. I could do without the very 80's headband that didn't age well, but that's more than made up for by the inclusion of the beautifully designed Stingray to distract me from it! 😉

My Miki, this just looks sweet, it has so much to say
It is lovely, lovely, lovely
I know that he loves this with Stingray
And maybe they don’t know Ryan, but I don't really mind
Because every line Paul draws so clear, Bulanadi cheer

If they ever make a Quasar move, I hope they play this song over a montage of Kevin Bacon teaching Wendell how to use the Quantum Bands.

Love this and thanks for sharing! Ryan and Bulanadi were so, so good together. Not to mention you put Quasar and Stingray on the same page.... great stuff! Hell of a page! (to me)

(Outstanding, Marcus!) Man, I spent like from 7-10 wishing I could have Quantum Bands. It's probably my favorite Marvel Weapon, and it even comes with a cosmic entity! Eat your heart out, Green Lantern. Have fun charging up, Greenie. Love this splash, and you got a Stingray, which is an awesome character design, imo. Great score. Congrats!
