DescriptionMichael Gaydos was a man possessed on ‘Pearl’. It was like nothing else I saw being published at the time in regards to marrying the storytelling component of conventional drawing with computer coloring and digital imagery (and it still looks ahead of the game even today). At times it wasn’t like Michael was drawing the book so much as DJ-ing it; crafting a dizzying concoction of phat beats and thick lines to help the book soar away in a miasmic cloud of disco inkferno.I am beyond delighted to offer up this double-page spread from Pearl #9 as exhibit A; an intense and gorgeously realized piece of finished work that turned out to be only the beginning of the journey for the spread (please see the additional image). So strikingly beautiful, and so different from published page. I cannot WAIT to see what the gents have in store for us with 'Pearl', Volume Three. A heartfelt thank you to Michael and to Corey at Cadence Comic Art! Social/Sharing |

I've yet to read the book but what a HAUNTING piece. Definitely one for the bedroom (of the children?).

Gothic dream sequence. Have never seen that velvety texture done so well. The skull has a strikingly human expression -- our artist didn't deign to for the "typical" look, instead aiming for perfection and reaching it in my book. Even the girl seems a pensive ghost here. In awe over this one, my man!

Well look, I've never even heard of this book but I AM a lover of skulls and skeletons in illustration so you already had me by the throat there! The way his body parts go in and out of the darkness is a really nice effect and I love that he seemes to have used up an entire bottle of India ink for this double page splash alone!

This is eerily breathtaking. Gaydos is one of those artists who is in a class by himself.

Come with me and you'll be
In a Pearl of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see
Into Gaydos fascination
Bendis' in written in
Traveling in the Pearl of his creation

This creepy splash page is for all of us who fear the things that go bump in the night.
