DescriptionHere is the second of two Jim Lee/ Scott Williams pages I purchased for my 40th birthday present to myself. And I love how upside and unclear the page is; I couldn’t exactly tell what was happening in it on first glance. That, to me, is an indication of the chaotic action this page attempts to immerse the viewer in. We can get a taste of Superman’s experience battling these sharp, vicious bots following an attempted rescue of astronauts peppered in the background of some of the page’s panels.I appreciate the boldness of the page to not depict so clearly that the main featured character is Superman. His S chest symbol is obscured by the swarming robots trying to rip at the Man of Steel. But again, I love how unclear, and chaotic, this is on the page. The tone of the art is frenetic and keeps me captivated from panel to panel. But Superman presses on I can almost hear Hans Zimmer’s score from the film Man of Steel when I look at this page, especially in the middle panels that close in on Superman’s face. Then, the tight shot of Superman’s eye as his heat vision strategically targets a way to give him an advantage to help him save the day. Check out this link to Zimmer’s score to view this page- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w4OdIOGBW2Q Hit up the 1:45 mark to really get that frenetic, action-packed feel to the art. Thanks for looking (and listening). Social/Sharing |

This series is one of Lee and Williams' great collaborations for an interior story which we don't see too often anymore. This has a slick sci-fi look to it that plays up the action and tech details in a way that plays tribute to those traditions of the genre.

Definitely, Marcus! Those sci-fi elements are so rich in Superman's mythology. I wish we saw more of that in his monthly books. But that's why I own this page to tide me over, right? ;)
Thanks for the comment!

Great 2nd of 2 Lee pages, man! Frenetic, as you say, and that's definitely part of the appeal. That first panel is tops - action and energy packed. And yes, the Zimmer score works :) Still get chills hearing it during that first flight scene. Big congrats, man. Worthy 40th birthday gifts. As my peeps Tom and Donna from Parks and Rec would say: "Treat yo self!!'
