DescriptionI'm mostly a Marvel guy, but I discovered Joe Kubert's great art on Tor when digging through cheap back issues at my local comics shop as a kid.Great Tor art isn't cheap, so I was happy to discover this affordable splash in a recent auction from the Kubert estate. This issue reprinted the Tor story from 3-D Comics #2 from 1953, so obviously this is mostly stat. The Tor lettering and background above the dinos is original plus the rock formation on the bottom right and the bottom edge including Tor's foot. What really sold me on the piece was the Joe Kubert self-portrait with signature, which he re-drew to age himself 20+ years. I've included a scan of the original 1953 version for comparison (sorry it's low-res, but that's the best I could find right now.) There's a missing stat on the bottom right, which I'll have to replace one of these days. Social/Sharing |

I love the young dinosaurs in love. But in all seriousness, great linework and a lot tighter than most Kubert drawings.

What a scene! How they are able to stat with the zipatone as well without losing that much texture on it is very cool!

Drop dead gorgeous. What a pity that much of it is stat, but even so, it's a hell of a show-piece. Big congratulations!

Tor seems rather nonplussed for such a raucous dino fight!

The Kubert portrait alone would make this an A++ piece. The fact that it's part of a spectacular splash puts it into the stratosphere.

Stop your fighting right now, or I'm turning this volcano around and going straight home! This is stunning Kubert work. I know it's a lot of stat, but that aged portrait is worth the price of admission by itself. Great find. Congrats!
