Description

Obtaining a piece of original art by the late, great Jorge Zaffino to feature in my collection has been a long time coming for this art collector. As many of you know, there was a time in the 2000s during which I was working with his son, Gerardo (who is currently delighting the comics world with his own stunning style of artwork--the influence of his father's work is apparent), and I hoped to get a piece then, but it did not work out that way at the time. Finally, I have found one, and thanks to Francesco and Andrea at www.tavoleoriginali.net, it safely survived a trip over (winter)seas to get to it's new home! I am very, very pleased! Now, I just have to save up my pennies and get a nice commission from Gerardo! :)

This page is 11 1/4" x 17 1/8" and I realize the main shot isn't fantastic (I need a bigger scanner). I am adding some detail shots so you can see some of the texture and technique involved here...great work to learn from!!! Wintersea is a 63-page story in the Winterworld (IDW, 2011 series) TPB. Oh, and since I don't yet have this book, if I got the page number wrong for assignment to the archive, and you have the book and want to correct me, let me know what it actually is and I'll change it!

The scale of it is awesome! Zaffino is confident that the audience will realize this page isn't much about the humans, but the big character of the ship that needs a big reveal to drill that into our hearts and minds.

Beautiul page. The big ship and and that line work is fantastic. Love all the detail shots. Makes me want to go and buy another Zaffiino, he really painted in ink.
