Description

Two posts today, both from the underrated Scott Hepburn. He’s an artist who, like James Harren or Daniel Warren Johnson, infuses his art with incredible life, texture, and energy; his pages buzz in your hands, and it is a real treat to be able to display some of his very fine work in my gallery.

I absolutely loved the Fin Fang Foom issues of Scott’s ‘Drax’ run. They allowed Scott to channel his talent into portraying the motion and fluid movement of FFF, as well as to capture the sheer power and stone-like build of the dragon. I’m thrilled to have great examples of both techniques on a single page here, especially with the beautiful first and last panels. Great stuff, and very affordable (almost embarrassingly so) in today’s market. Do yourself a favor and grab some!

Thank you sincerely, Christopher, for allowing me to add this awesome piece to my collection, and to K Gearon for turning me on to the joys of Scott’s work! Much appreciated, gents!

The movement, the energy, the different textures....all so very attractive. I love guys who can weild a brush properly, as it is the most difficult tool to ink with, as it requires supreme confidence, precision and the subtlest of weight variations, so it's difficult to control without extensive practice. I love the drybrush effect, too, which Hepburn applied beautifully here.

Drax to the max!  And is that a magic-wielding dragon I see, yum...

Behold those textures.  Lovingly rendered work.

The pumped up scale texture in that last panel is such a fun swap. It really highlights the intensity of the moment.

Truly a rarity to see Fin Fang Foom featured so prominently in the modern age!  You can really get into the personality behind his facade of just being known as just a dragon from the monster age of Marvel.

Tail-kick! Excellent FFF page, especially the last panel.

Fin Fang Foom has to be one of the most visually striking characters from the days of classic Marvel, and Scott does an outstanding job depicting him here.  A stellar page!

Great energy combined with the great storytelling, top to bottom!  Scott showin' out no doubt!  Great tail whip inking effect at top, then the different inking technique in rendering the scales in the bottom right panel.  Congrats, man!
