DescriptionI never imagined I’d be lucky enough to add a Thing piece to my gallery two weeks in a row… but then I was sent a little bundle of joy from the man with the plan and a pen in his hand - Eranga Devasurendra!Eranga rocked it here on a great POV shot of ol’ blue eyes charging at the viewer. I had requested something along the lines of one of those “hidden picture” pieces (where you stare at the patterns, relax your eyes, and an image magically appears) featuring The Thing as the subject (emerging from - what appeared to be - a sheet of stones). It was an absolute pleasure to watch Eranga do all the heavy lifting and refine my weird ask into this incredible piece. An 11x17 powerhouse! Do yourself a favor and get on his list! Thank you, Eranga, for this outstanding portrait of Ben! Love that HUGE left paw reaching for the viewer..... Social/Sharing |

Love the clever design of this one. Almost works like one of those, find-the-hidden-picture images. In lesser hands, this could have been a mess. But it's done well enough so that the viewer doesn't have to work too hard for the visual payoff.

Thanks, Eric! That's exactly what I had asked Eranga to try for, and he did such a great job with it. I thought it would be a cool complimentary piece to his awesome silhouette pieces, where he stylistically "leaves stuff out", to instead throw EVERYTHING in :) . It turned out so well - I really love it. Thanks (as always!) for the great comment, Eric (and all)!

Really cool! But this is the 2nd Thing illustration done as an extreme closeup posted in the same week, after th one Fred posted. What are the odds of that?!?

HA! When I saw Fred post his (and knew what I'd be putting up), I did have a little giggle. I'll always gladly follow F M! :) Thanks, Ruben. :)

Wow, that's crazy! I can't believe Eranga put that in as a hidden picture though. You might want to tag this NSFW!!!

Nice. It's reminding me of something ;)
Right? We're building our own sequential narrative here, F M! It should be a CAF-wide game of "pass it on"! You posted your Kirby "zoomed in" shot of Ben, I posted a slightly wider shot, now we need someone to post another shot of The Thing slightly further back, and build a CAF "flipbook" of sorts! Who'll post the next one? Who watches the Thing, man?

I want to run, I want to hide
I wanna tear down the bricks that hold me inside
Eranaga reach out and brush the frame
Devasurendra's his name, ha, ha, ha
I wanna feel sunlight on Ben's face
I see that ink line just appear, he does not trace
Eranga has entered, boarding the hype train
Yancy streets has Ben's name, oh, oh

This is the second sweet close-up Thing piece I've seen this week. Very cool! Getting depth and distinctive action with a close-up of rock on rock background with crisp line work is so hard to pull off, and he did. And with great emotion, too. Another sweet commission. Congrats!

Right when I saw it I had to do a double take, to make sure I saw what I thought I saw. So cool it takes some effort to make out the body vs head vs hand. Eranga definitely delivered on your ask! And 11x17! Congrats, man - worthy add to the Ben Grimm collection!

Eranga ROCKED this (sorry, couldn't pass up the pun) and made it his own! Love the creative design here. Congrats!

As you say quite elequently, it all resolves when you let your brain relax into it. Very clever art.

Whoaaa! That's a crazy image! Love that you don't even see the Thing for a moment and then POP! there he is!
