Description

15" x 10" image area. Ink over graphite on Bristol board. Batman #304 Page 5 Original Art (DC November 1978). John Calnan and Dick Giordano.

The Spook has Batman placed in a special chamber filled with air holes through which air pressure is forced to keep him aloft on a cushion of air. Finally, the room is filled with a pinkish mist, and illusions are projected onto it to make Batman feel as though he had died and was reincarnated as a ghost.

Eight panels on this page and Batman is in every single one of them! Such a cool, dreamy sequence with the first panel even showing a ghost of Batman. The distorted panel frames make the viewer feel as if they too, are experiencing a disorienting hallucination like Batman. Even as he believes he died, Batman keeps his cool.
