DescriptionI have a few Abbie an' Slats originals, and I admire van Buren's solid but un-fussy illustrational style, but this one is probably the most visually exciting. I'm a sucker for rain effects, and heavy blacks. Clear story-telling with all that hatching and atmosphere takes skill. And writer Elliot Caplin* shows he wasn't the only in the family with an ear for hick dialect, gol-blast it!*Brother of Al Capp, who originally wrote the strip. Social/Sharing |

It's not only rain, but in direction rain with both inks and then a layer of white paints.

I've never been a big fan of this strip as I'm not a big fan of van Buren, but every now and then I see a daily which stands out from all the rest in terms of the artistry and this is one of those. This is a truly exceptional example. Nice acquisition!
